Sprawling along the northern end of Av. Camaron Sabalo, the beachfront Hotel El Cid is a huge mega-resort offering over 1,000 rooms in three separate hotel complexes, 15 bars and restaurants, a huge disco, over a dozen tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course, and a marina. For families, however, one of the greatest things about the resort is its pool.
The waterpark area at the El Cid consists of two huge pools connected by an array of shallow river-type areas which wind around the three hotels. One palm-studded pool tends tends to cater to adults, as it is much quieter and less crowded. The other, however, is a jungle original, complete with a huge rock diving platform. There's a waterslide which is made of fake rocks, a large waterfall, and some interesting cave-like areas. Rock music blares, and guests enjoy watching each other jump, dive and slide into the watery blue lagoon. Parents should watch younger children closely, as it's easy for kids to disappear into the caves and river areas where they can be difficult to locate.
The resort is immensely popular with families, and often offers great deals during the low season. While catering to its guests, the resort also welcomes cruise passengers for a fee.
