American Air Offers Special Fares to Families of NYC Victims
American Airlines will offer special fares of $75, $100 and $150 each way to families of victims of the New York City disasters. The fares, called "AA Helps," will also apply to employees of the American Red Cross and its local affiliates, as well as police officers, firemen and members of the clergy traveling to New York to assist in the recovery effort.
The mileage-based fares, applicable for travel to LaGuardia, Newark and JFK airports, must be purchased at least three days before departure and by Sept. 30. Tickets must be purchased for round trip travel with a two-night minimum stay. A $100 change fee will apply. All travel must be completed by Oct. 31, and tickets are nonrefundable.
Travelers must request the "AA Helps" fare by calling American Airlines Reservations at 1-800-433-7300. Relatives of victims should identify themselves to the reservations agents as such. Others requesting the fare may be required to present identification and verification that they are traveling in connection with the recovery efforts. Seats are based on availability and may not be available on all flights. Fares are subject to change without notice. Fares do not include a $2.75 per segment fee or passenger facilities charges of up to $18, depending on the routing. A segment is defined as a takeoff and a landing.
