New England Resort Offers Back-to-Nature Family Packages
The Bethel Inn and Country Club, located in the western Maine village of Bethel, offers families with children ages 5-11 back-to-nature activities in the comfort of a full service resort.
Nature-oriented adventures include a canoe or kayak trip on the Androscoggin River, a guided fishing trip to a remote pond, gem mining in tourmaline quarries, hiking in the White Mountains and swimming beneath cascading waterfalls. For parents who will be playing golf, the Bethel Inn offers Mahoosuc Kids Camp for children. The camp operates from 8:45 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday. Activities include arts and crafts, music, golf, cooking, gardening, technology, games, reading and history mysteries centered around weekly topics of wildlife, water, birds, minerals, weather, bugs and local Indian legends. Field trips to museums, parks and nature reserves are scheduled every Wednesday.
A two night midweek package (Sunday through Thursday) for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children 11 and under) begins at $599. The package includes two nights lodging, two full breakfasts, complete dinner, two days of Mahoosuc Kids Camp, a choice of canoe trip or guided fishing trip or a family pass to an adventure center with miniature golf, waterslide and climbing wall. Additional nights start at $45 per family member per night including lodging and dinner.
The Bethel Inn, celebrating its 90th season, is located on 200 acres in the heart of the western Maine mountains. The resort has 65 guest rooms and 35 condominium rental units, outdoor heated pool, whirlpool, saunas, video game room, dining room, tavern and grille, 18 hole championship golf course, tennis court, bicycles and lake house with canoes and kayaks.
