Traverse City Offers Spring "Family Fun Getaways"

For all its fragile, poetic beauty, spring can be a challenging season for families. Winter is pretty much done with, but summer vacation is still somewhere over the horizon – and by April everybody seems to have developed a bad case of spring fever.

Relax. Up in the bustling Lake Michigan resort town of Traverse City, the local visitors’ bureau is offering a series of spring “Family Fun Getaway” packages from April 6 through June 14. Families who book one of the specials can stay in a Traverse City hotel or resort for as little as $49 per family per night, plus tax, based on one room for two adults and two children.

The package price also includes discounts at several of the area’s best restaurants and downtown shops. And if the blossoming cherry orchards, mouth-watering cuisine and breathtaking scenery of a Traverse City spring aren’t enough inducement, the bureau will help arrange museum and park admissions, guided horseback rides, canoe trips and even pottery-making classes.

“We wanted to make it easier for families to take a little break together, maybe share a long weekend of fun up here in the spring,” said Jack Schripsema, vice president of the Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau. “As one of the country’s most family-friendly destinations, we want more people to be able to experience a Traverse City spring getaway.”

To qualify for the special rates, visitors must book their package through the Bureau’s special toll-free Family Fun Getaway line at 1-888-499-4507.
