The Westin Providence Named To Conde Nast "Gold List"

Hotel ranked with top resorts and hotels around the world.

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Providence Westin Hotel has been named to the prestigious ninth annual Conde Nast Traveler magazine Gold List based on the voting of over 28,000 subscribers to the publication. The list of selected hotels is featured in the January 2003 issue.

The Westin Providence is the only Rhode Island hotel to win the honor, and one of just a handful of New England facilities selected.

"We're delighted to be in the company of resorts and premiere locations around the world," said The Westin Providence Hotel General Manager Mark Anderson. "The selection speaks to the quality of our hotel and the service that we provide our visitors."

Conde Nast Traveler subscribers voted in this year's Reader's Choice Poll, from which the publisher "distilled the world's top-scoring hotels, resorts, and cruise lines." From interviews with readers were gathered "insights on everything from the softness of the sheets to the succulence of the steaks. The result? An insider's guide to the best in the world today, a commodity as precious as gold."

The Westin Providence, which is owned by the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority, is one of 55 properties managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. named to the Gold List and Gold List Reserve in 2003. It joins such well-known Starwood facilities as St. Regis in New York, The Westin St. Francis in San Francisco and The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona as well as a host of international resorts and hotels in major cities and destinations around the world.

"The Westin Providence Hotel has played a major role in the success of the Rhode Island Convention Center Complex and in the revitalization of Providence," said Dominic Ragosta, chairman of the Convention Center Authority. "Management has done a great job of fulfilling the Authority's vision of a world class facility that attracts the type of upscale traveler who is so important to the economic vitality of the city and the state while serving as an effective anchor property for city-wide conventions."

The selection to the Conde Nast award comes as work on a $7 million renovation of the hotel nears completion. All of the common areas of the hotel have been upgraded with new carpeting, paint and wall paper. The final guest room phase will be completed in the second quarter of 2003.

The Westin Providence Hotel is a 364-room facility adjacent to the Rhode Island Convention Center and Convention Center Garage. It is owned by the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority and managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. headquartered in White Plains, NY.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with 750 properties in more than 80 countries and 110,000 employees at its owned and managed properties.
