New York City Passenger Ship Terminal Introduces Year-Round Weekly Cruises To The Bahamas & Florida

City to Become Permanent Home Port to Norwegian Cruise Lines' Largest Ship

NEW YORK, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York City Passenger Ship Terminal, managed and operated by P&O Ports North America, Inc., and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) announced today the inauguration of weekly cruises to the Bahamas and Florida from the terminal facility. Departing from New York City's world class facility, cruise passengers will now be able to sail to the Bahamas and Florida all year-round on one of the most prestigious cruise lines.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) will be the first cruise line offering this unprecedented service from the New York City Passenger Ship Terminal by debuting its newest, fastest and largest ship, The Norwegian Dawn. New York City will be its permanent year-round homeport -- a first for the cruise industry and for the City.

The Norwegian Dawn is NCL's largest ship and accommodates 2,240 guests and 1,100 crew. It offers a plethora of amenities that passengers will enjoy including first class restaurants, spacious staterooms and suites, original artwork, fitness centers and spa, a Las Vegas-style casino and an Internet cafe.

Responding to the tremendous growth of the 'drive to' cruising market, the New York City Passenger Ship Terminal enthusiastically embraced the concept of year-round cruising. "The Norwegian Dawn had a remarkable effect on the New York City market during its inaugural visit here this past December," commented Bruce Cashon, Vice President of Marketing for P&O Ports North America. "With the travel agents clamoring to have new vessels such as The Norwegian Dawn sailing out of New York City year-round, we are delighted to help capitalize on this new and exciting opportunity for the City and NCL. We are pleased that the New York City Passenger Ship Terminal now provides cruise lines and their passengers world-class services and facilities on a year-round schedule."

"The announcement from Norwegian Cruise Line is great news for New York City's tourism," said Andrew M. Alper, President of EDC. "The Norwegian Dawn's new year-round service will mean a record number of cruise passengers using the Passenger Ship Terminal during the 2003 season, with a projected volume of more than 900,000 departures and arrivals. This will solidify New York City's position as the largest U.S. port outside of Florida."

The New York City Passenger Ship Terminal provides world-class facilities for the world's most prestigious cruise lines and their passengers. Also known as the International Cruise Terminal on the Hudson, it is conveniently located just minutes to the heart of midtown Manhattan and the finest hotels, restaurants, entertainment and shopping.

The New York City Passenger Ship Terminal offers secure berthing accommodations for multiple cruise vessels of all sizes, including mega ship class. Its three spacious passenger terminals have rooftop parking for 1,000 cars. U.S. Customs, FDA and other related Federal agencies are on site.
