OHIO IS THE PLACE TO BE IN 2003! CELEBRATE THIS FOURTH OF JULY WITH AVIATION, AMISH, WAGON TRAINS, WORLD-CLASS MUSIC AND THE BIGGEST FIREWORKS IN THE MIDWEST
Celebrate the American Spirit in Ohio this Independence Day. Ohio has So much to Discover, from rural Amish family reunions and pioneer wagon trains and hot air balloons to fireworks and world-renowned music as we ring in our Bicentennial year celebrating 200 years of rich history.
-- Red, White & Bicentennial BOOM!, Downtown Columbus, July 3 Kick off Fourth of July Weekend with a BOOM! Red White and Bicentennial Boom is one of the biggest fireworks shows in the Midwest. More than 500,000 people are expected to gather in Ohio's capital city for the celebration, which will include a 27-minute choreographed fireworks show, a parade and music.
-- Inventing Flight: Dayton 2003, United States Air Force Museum, July 4 Celebrate Ohio's native Wright Brothers and the Centennial of Flight with a record-breaking hot air balloon rally. Enjoy beautiful balloon glows complemented by a dazzling fireworks show, hot air balloon competitions and a gas balloon race. The month-long Inventing Flight celebration also features a huge air show with an unprecedented three jet precision teams; a blimp meet; and the Pioneers of Flight Homecoming.
-- Holmes (Amish) Family Reunion, Holmes County, July 4-6 The Holmes Family Reunion is a chance for Ohio's Amish community to welcome out-of-towners to one of our local traditions -- the family reunion. The reunion features a chicken barbecue with all the fixings, organized games for the kids, sporting tournaments, bingo, and music. The weekend includes fireworks on Friday, a parade and festivities on Saturday and the reunion on Sunday.
-- Ohio Bicentennial Wagon Train, Worthington, July 5 Experience Independence Day in pioneer style. Beginning June 21, the Bicentennial Wagon Train will travel from Ohio's eastern border in Martins Ferry, along the Historic National Road (U.S. 40). On July 5, the wagon train will pull into Worthington for a day of old-fashioned fun including parades, music and fireworks. Visitors can watch the wagon train in action, meet the pioneer travelers who are camping along the way, or buy a ticket to ride on a wagon.
