Utah Resorts on Track for Record November Snowfall
With more than eight feet of snow already on the ground at some Utah ski
resorts and another foot or more forecast for later this week, Utah resorts are on
track to surpass the 1994 record when 151 inches of snow fell at Snowbird Ski
and Summer Resort during November.
"This is one of the best season openings in the past 20 years, and the
weather forecasters are telling us there's more snow on the way," said Ski Utah
President Kip Pitou. Noting that many Utah resorts and lodging properties are
offering low-cost early season deals from now until Christmas, Pitou added, "This
is the perfect scenario: skiers get mid-season conditions at early-season
prices."
According to the National Weather Service, "the next Pacific storm will start
to affect the area late Thursday and continue through most of the weekend."
The forecast calls for significant snowfall in all Utah mountains. The abundant
early snowfall has allowed most Utah resorts to open well ahead of schedule.
Early season skiers and snowboarders at those resorts already open report
superb conditions. Following are November snow totals as of Nov. 19 and opening dates for Utah resorts:
