TAMPA'S MOSI OFFERS SPRING BREAK CAMPS

When school's out, Tampa's Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) takes over. MOSI offers Spring Break Camps March 22 - 26 for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Parents may choose from half-day morning and/or afternoon camps or all-day camps. Students may be dropped off as early as 7 a.m. and picked up as late as 6 p.m.

Half-Day Science Camps for Grade K - 3 include:

· Science Surfers, 9 a.m. - noon. Campers will experiment with a different discipline each day - astronomy, paleontology, physics, and chemistry.

· Up, Up, and Away, 1 - 4 p.m. Students will create their own flying machines, throw boomerangs, and play a round of Frisbee golf. They will also make paper airplanes, and work with remote controlled planes.

Full Day Camps offered are:

· Spring Chess Camp, Grade K - 8, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Local masters will provide instruction for beginner to expert chess players. Playing chess and developing strategies is only part of the fun. Kids will also participate in science demonstrations and other activities. Direct questions concerning chess instruction to: Coach Taylor at (813) 988-0096.

· Web Designers, Grade 4 - 7, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Campers will spend the week creating their own Web pages to put on the Internet.

Students are encouraged to bring two snacks and wear clothing that they can get messy. They may either bring a lunch or buy one from the Galaxy Café and Shop. Spring Break Camp fees are: Half-day -- MOSI members $75 for the morning or afternoon camp, $150 for both morning and afternoon camps; nonmembers $100 for the morning or afternoon camp, $150 for both morning and afternoon camps; Full Day - MOSI members $150, nonmembers $150.

MOSI is the largest science center in the southeastern United States and home of the only IMAXÒ Dome Theatre in the state of Florida. In all, MOSI offers more than 450 "minds-on" interactive activities. MOSI is located at 4801 East Fowler Avenue, Tampa, opens daily at 9 a.m., is wheelchair accessible, and offers free parking.
