Biking Families Head to Copper Mountain This Summer

Copper Mountain is gearing up for another season of road biking and cycling events sure to provide something for every rider in the family. As a road-biking mecca, the Village at Copper provides access to hundreds of miles of scenic cycling terrain including forty miles of paved bike paths that wind through Summit and Eagle counties.

New this season and available only to cyclists are daily "Biker Short" lunch specials available at some of the resort's favorite eateries. Riders also can take advantage of free water and air from Team Managers Bike Shop located in the Village at Copper.

This summer's road biking schedule includes the 15th Annual Courage Classic, as well as weekly scheduled group rides free to cyclists of all abilities.

The following is a list of summer cycling events in addition to a variety of summer experiences including free scenic chairlift rides, outdoor concerts, movies and more:

--Families can safely and easily ride together on a six-mile downhill cruise from Copper to Frisco, Colo. through Ten Mile Canyon. After arriving in Frisco, cyclists can take the free Summit Stage bus back to Copper, or tackle the uphill ride back to the resort.

--Free organized rides are planned for riders of all ages and abilities beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 20, and will depart every other Sunday from Team Managers Bicycle Shop located in The Village at Copper. Group rides are scheduled throughout the summer to give cyclists an opportunity to explore the roads around Copper while meeting other cycling enthusiasts.

--Scheduled time trials are set to run between Summit High School in Frisco to the Conoco gas station at Copper five times throughout the summer and are open to all cyclists. This is a great way to improve technique and ability level on the nine-mile course.

--Copper will host the 15th Annual Courage Classic to benefit The Children's Hospital, July 17-19. This is the 11th year Copper will hold the three-day, two-night bicycle tour that covers 155 miles of Colorado's most scenic mountain byways. Additionally, A Taste of Courage will take place Sunday, July 18 offering cyclists a highlighted version of the Classic course including 39, 54 or 75-mile rides. For more information visit, www.couragetours.com.

--For high altitude training cyclists can start at Copper's base of 9,712 feet and embark on the 85-mile legendary "Copper Triangle" (Copper - Leadville - Minturn - Vail - Copper). Scheduled for Aug. 14, this ride will provide true conditioning and unbeatable scenery as it climbs three passes (Fremont, Tennessee and Vail) covering 11,200 vertical feet.
