Atlantis Creates World of Adventure for Smaller Kids
Atlantis, Paradise Island, one of the leading family resorts in the Caribbean, is adding over one hundred thousand gallons of water attractions and innovative new morning, all-day and evening “Kids Club” activity programs to its highly acclaimed collection of play offerings for children under twelve.
“Atlantis, Paradise Island is lauded by parents for our innovative children’s programming concepts that take advantage of the resort’s spectacular natural habitat to stimulate a child’s imagination and creativity,” said George Markantonis, President/Managing Director of Kerzner International Bahamas. “Every parent has struggled with ‘my child is too short for the ride’ - we aimed to solve that problem in a big way by expanding on our amazing environment to create a one-of-a-kind island playground.”
Adjacent to the resort’s iconic Mayan Temple, the new Splashers children’s water play area and pool opened on the first of June 2006 to provide a world of thrills for children under 48 inches and their parents. The action is at the elaborate Mayan-themed water play structure featuring two enclosed spiral body slides, one open spiral body slide, and a child friendly version of the famous side-by-side Mayan Temple Challenger slide. It also features cargo nets and rope bridges for climbing and water cannons, fountains and water wheels for endless soaking. Overhead, a 320-gallon bucket regularly showers water-lovers below with 8000 gallons of water per hour. Splashers is designed with the youngest in mind. With a maximum depth of 3 feet, parents need not worry about keeping certain areas off limits. Parents are encouraged to join their children on all the activities, except for the slides.
The fun continues on land with an all-new Atlantis Kids Club supervised activity program offering age-appropriate adventure, play, exploration and educational programs for children ages 3 -12.
Children ages 3-5 can participate in various themed games, crafts and fun during Morning Escape. They might learn how to play an instrument and partake in a Bahamian Junkanoo parade or create their very own sand sculpture. The highlight of this program is sure to be the visit to the resort’s Fish Hospital where the children will visit newborn, ailing and acclimating marine life and learn how Atlantis Seakeepers care for the more than 50,000 sea creatures throughout the resort.
Older brothers and sisters ages 6-12 will enjoy Discovery Kids Adventure with activities designed in conjunction with The Discovery Channel – the only program of its kind in the world. With Discovery Kids™, children will be able to discover hidden treasure, decode Atlantean hieroglyphics in The Dig, test their own ‘Endurance’ through beach Olympics and live actual shark tales with Kenny the Shark (and Atlantis's more than 100 species of shark).
Kids own the night as well – the resort provides an array of activities that make parents feel wonderful giving them a night off. With movies, games, story corner, computer play, dancing and karaoke during each night’s Evening Escape, 6:00-10:00PM becomes the time “to be seen” at Atlantis Kids Club. Wednesday-Saturday evenings are themed and the experienced staff has created age-appropriate activities for 3-12 year olds to keep them busy, entertained and intrigued.
The year-round Atlantis Kids Club program is located an expansive “Kids Only” clubhouse in the Coral Towers and features computers, image scanners, video camcorders, microscopes, magnifiers, live animal touch tanks, and a variety of toys, games, books, and puzzles.
Atlantis is known for its stunning open-air marine habitat, featuring more than 11-million gallons of fresh and salt water lagoons and pools that provide a home to more than 50,000 sea creatures. Some of these creatures live inside a museum-quality archaeological “DIG”, a maze of passageways, chambers and stunning vistas of underwater boulevards and ruins that take the visitor on a fascinating journey of the Atlantis legend. Each day, the Aqua Tots program provides a chance for a few children to join Atlantis Seakeepers in feeding small fish and baby sea life in the Estuary Lagoon. Club Rush – a “No Adults” private club - has been set aside for teens and ‘tweens to enjoy a dance floor, lounge chairs, snacks, Internet access, the latest video games, a movie screen, and more.
As children experience the resort from 47” and under, they can continue to dream of the day when they pass the 48” mark and take their first ride down a spectacular complex of pulse-pounding waterslides, including the six-story Mayan Temple body slide, “The Leap of Faith.” Until then, Atlantis has created a world they can call their own.
