Where Kids Play their Way Smart
by Bob Carter (travelbits@aol.com)
Have you ever climbed through a giant human heart? What about playing a starring role on television, or travel through the human ear? It's easier to do these things, and a whole lot more, at the Betty Brinn Children's Museum in Milwaukee. The museum is named in memory of a Milwaukee resident raised in an orphanage and several foster home. Her legacy of wife and mother of four children, and an entrepreneur, lives on in this museum that bears her name.
Designed specifically for children ages 1 to 10, make-believe comes to life with many hands-on exhibits, interactive programs, activities, and workshops especially designed to be excitingly fun, painlessly educational, and refreshingly exciting. On-going programs include "My Body Works," "Toys by Us," "A Trading Place," and "Sound all Around." Kids who want to learn about television and experiment with electronic pictures can do it at "Wbb-TV," and toddlers have their very own "Play Port."
The Betty Brinn Children's Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The facility is closed most Mondays. Admisson: Adults and Children aged 1 and up $4; Children under 1 and members are free. Location: 929 East Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee WI 53202, 414-291- 0888.
