Through our research, we have located schools, orphanages, charities and organizations that welcome in-kind donations to assist in their endeavors. A number of these organizations have been visited. In many cases, we have relied on the information provided by volunteers, directors, and other individuals involved with these groups and we do not guarantee the completeness or accuracy of the information provided. Use the information you find here as a starting point for doing independent research on these organizations and determining which, if any, you would like to help on your travels.

Nassau, Bahamas:

The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel is an orphanage and foster home for young children. Ages range from infants up to about 10 years of age. The address is McKinney Drive, Fire Trail and Carmichael Road, Nassau, Bahamas. The Administrator is Katie Gardiner. The telephone number is (242) 361-4124 and the e-mail address is bceh@coralwave.com. Items that are needed are children’s clothing for babies and children up to 10 years of age, toiletries and personal hygiene items, children’s Tylenol, children’s multivitamins, children’s cold/cough medicine, band-aids, toys, backpacks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, paper, rulers, school supplies, children’s books, new underwear and socks, sports equipment, bath towels and washcloths, and bed sheets.

The S.T.R.A.W. Inc. Center for Young Women is an organization that assists teen girls and young women throughout New Providence and the outer islands of the Bahamas. The organization is located at 83 Mount Royal Avenue (upstairs from Mount Royal Plaza). S.T.R.A.W.’s offices are located not too far from the cruise ship pier and many resorts, and visitors should call or e-mail in advance to arrange a drop-off. The organization is seeking the following items: Reference books such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, research manuals, text books (high school and college), reading books (novels for older girls, teen mysteries, etc.), coloring books (middle school students), school supplies such as book bags, pencils, art supplies, etc., games including board games (chess, backgammon, sorry) and sporting equipment such as balls, softball equipment, etc.

The Bilney Lane Children’s Home is a small orphanage/foster home for children ages 5-18. The address is Bilney Lane off Shirley Street, P.O. Box N-205, Nassau, Bahamas. The Administrator is Janet Brown, and the telephone number is (242) 393-0271. Items that are needed are children’s clothing for kids ages 5-18, toiletries and personal hygiene items, backpacks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, paper, rulers, school supplies, books, new underwear and socks, sports equipment, bath towels and washcloths, and bed sheets.

The Ranfurly Home for Children is a foster home for children ages 5-18. The address is Mackey Street, Nassau, Bahamas, and the Administrator’s name is Violetta Gardiner. The Home can be contacted by phone at (242) 393-3115 or by e-mail at ranfurly@bahamas.net.bs. Items that are needed are children’s clothing for kids ages 5-18, toiletries and personal hygiene items, backpacks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, paper, rulers, school supplies, books, new underwear and socks, sports equipment, bath towels and washcloths, and bed sheets.

The Elizabeth Estates Children’s Home is an orphanage for children ages 1-18. The Administrator is Chereley Kelley. The address is Zimbabwe Avenue, P.O. Box N-205, Nassau, Bahamas, and the telephone number is (242) 324-4630 or (242) 324-4646. The Home can be contacted by e-mail at eech@coralwave.com. Items that are needed are children’s clothing for toddlers and children up to 18 years of age, toiletries and personal hygiene items, children’s and adult’s Tylenol, children’s multivitamins, children’s cold/cough medicine, band-aids, toys, backpacks, pens, pencils, colored pencils, paper, rulers, school supplies, educational puzzles and games, children’s books, new underwear and socks, sports equipment, bath towels and washcloths, and bed sheets.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island:

The Grand Bahama Children’s Home is an orphanage/foster home for abandoned, abused and neglected children. The Administrator is Judy Johnson and the address is The Village, Tripp Circle, Freeport, Grand Bahama. The Children’s Home can be reached by telephone at (242) 352-6076. Needs include children’s clothing, toiletries and personal hygiene items, books, toys, school supplies, and educational puzzles and games.
