Resort Overview: Sun Valley was founded in 1936 and is located in the center of Idaho's Big Wood River Valley. The Sawtooth Mountains are known as the the American Alps and this is Sun Valley's home. They have the world's largest computer-controlled snowmaking system for your skiing pleasure. The desert-montane climate keeps the air crisp and clear in winter, and dry in the summer. This is the perfect family resort for any season.
Accommodations: Sun Valley has a total of 530 guestrooms. The Sun Valley Lodge is a full-service hotel with 148 rooms, ranging from standard rooms to suites. The Sun Valley Inn is another hotel with 113 rooms. The Deluxe Apartments and Wildflower Condominiums offer 269 units from studios to four bedrooms. Children under 15 stay free.
Restaurants: GOURMET MAGAZINE has recognized the restaurants at Sun Valley. The Lodge Dining Room serves Continental cuisine for dinner and Sunday brunch. Specialites include mesquite-grilled chicken, salmon and prime rib. Gretchen's offers guests breakfast and lunch. In the summer, you can enjoy dining on the terrace. Ski over toThe Trail Creek Cabin features a western setting with lunch and dinner to match. Families will love Bald Mountain Pizza & Pasta. Their game room has video games and a kid's menu. Other restauants are located in the mall.
Children's Programs: In the winter, "Just for Kids" ski school classes are offered on Dollar and Baldy complete with supervised lunches and ski breaks. The "Tiny Tracks" program introduces three and four year olds to skiing, the "Ski Wee" program teaches sound skiing fundamentals, and the "Baldy Bears" clinics strengthen technique for the seven to twelve-year-old intermediate to expert skiiers on Baldy. Sun Valley's Play School is for guests ages six months to six year olds. It is open from 8:30-4:30 daily. Evening programs from 6-11 are also available. Rates range from $47-$67 depending on age. Summertime offers kids the Sun Valley Day Camp for 6-14 year olds.
Golf: The Sun Valley Resort Golf Course is a rugged and spectacular golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. It features a full compliment of stream carries and ominous bunkers well-positioned to catch the errant shot. The 6740 yard par 72 course has a full compliment of 18 individual signature holes.
Tennis: Sun Valley has 18 tennis courts. Lessons and tennis clinics are offered to guests and taught by their resident USPTA pro.
Swimming: Sun Valley has 3 heated outdoor pools. Two of them are open for use all year round.
Skiing: Sun Valley features 78 runs and 18 lifts. Dollar Mountain is a separate mountain for teaching including 4 lifts. Tiny Traks is a special learning environment for kids ages 3 and up.
Other Activities and Amenities: Other activities ar Sun Valley include ice skating both recreational and instructional-indoor and outdoor, snowshoeing biking, mountain biking, trap and skeet shooting, horseback riding, fly fishing, white water rafting, in-line skating and bowling. Entertainment includes first run movies, live performers in the Boiler Room, and dancing to romantic music in the Duchin Lounge. Sun Valley Village offers a wide variety of shops and galleries.
