This island has the highest percentage of repeat visitors in the Caribbean, and there are lots of reasons why. Beautiful beaches, warm (and dry!) sunny weather, and tons of watersports are just a few of the reasons. This island also has a number of large hotels that really cater to families. Take a look at www.aruba.com With it being this close to Spring Break, a number of the best are nearing sell-out status. Hence, we've decided to list this island as a destination all in itself and give you a number of resorts to choose from. All of these cater to families with special children's programs. Read on:
Check out the Hyatt Regency Aruba (800-233-1234). Situated on 12 acres on Palm Beach, this high-rise resort is best known for (what else!) its famous pool filled with cascading waterfalls, a two-story spiraling waterslide, a lagoon, and the standard Hyatt bells and whistles. A Camp Hyatt program is offered for children 3-12 daily during spring break and Easter Week this year.
Families who prefer suite accommodations will like the La Cabana Beach Resort (800-835-7193). This gigantic all-suite resort on Eagle Beach features three pools (one with a waterslide - the other with a waterfall), the island's biggest casino, a 600-seat theater, a health spa, tons of water sports, squash and racquetball courts, and tennis clinics. Club Cabana Nana keeps kids 5-12 busy with lots of activities.
The Aruba Sonesta Suites (800-SONESTA) is a great choice for families, as long as you don't mind being right on the beach. A short water-taxi ride takes you to the Sonesta's own private island with six beaches, water sports, tennis, restaurants, and its own fitness center. The resort is in Oranjestestad on the waterfront overlooking the city. It offers one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes and two free-form pools. The free kids program, "Just Us Kids" runs year-round on a daily basis, and is available for kids ages 5-12.
