Flathead Lake is one of the largest natural lake west of the Great Lakes. It is located in the Rocky Mountains of Montana south of Glacier National Park. Families have been coming to this area for years to enjoy sailing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and countless other activities.
Averill's Flathead Lake Lodge, located on the eastern shore of the lake, is a 2,000 acre family operated dude ranch that caters to families. This is an informal place - perfect for relaxing. Guests stay in cottages and eat all their meals together. Horseback riding and an extensive array of water sports are offered every day. Other activities take place during the week, including rafting excursions, mountain bike rides, and fly-fishing lake cruises.
The ranch operates an excellent children's program for kids 6 and up, with planned, supervised activities for the younger ones. Private babysitting can also be arranged. For children (6 and older) horseback rides are offered daily with a "Children's Rodeo" each Saturday. An overnight camp is available for kids ages 6 through 12. The younger kids are not left out at all: their activities mirror the events for the older solo riders but the younger ones are led or guided on their rides.
Aside from horseback riding events, water and golf activities are options for guests. Flathead Lake Lodge also provides swimming (in the lake or heated pool), waterskiing, boating, river tubing and floats, lake cruising, tennis, kayaking, and white-water rafting. Kids can also take lessons in fishing, horseback riding, sailing, tennis, and waterskiing. Adults have a similar program, with trail rides on horseback through the mountainous terrain, evening rodeos, cookouts, camping and breakfast rides.
