Although Kentucky Lake is one of the world's largest man-made lakes, it is also a best-kept secret. Many families have discovered this place, however, and return year after year to enjoy the myriad of land-based and water-oriented activities The over 2,000 miles of shoreline offer hiking, biking and horseback trails. In addition, marinas on the 160,000 acre lake offer rentals on fishing boats, ski boats, pontoon boats, jet skis, sailboats and even luxury houseboats along with repair, sales and service.
Golfers can play a round at courses just a short drive away, and have their choice of 9-hole executive courses and championship 18-hole courses. Families can find accommodations by the lake or inland at bed and breakfasts. There are several camping areas for families. Along the edge of "The Land Between the Lakes" are several places that offer motel-type accommodations and some family restaurants as well.
Be sure to visit the Golden Pond Planetarium, Woodlands Nature Center, The Homeplace-1850, and a living history farm. The Museum of the American Quilter's Society and the National Scouting Museum also offer unique exhibits.
