The lodge is set in a state park in the beautiful Davis Mountains and managed by the Texas Parks and Recreation Department. It was built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps in an Indian -pueblo style. All of the rooms face the east so everybody gets a gorgeous view of sunrise over the mountains.
Activities include: nature and hiking trails in Davis Mountains State Park, horseback riding, Fort Davis National Historic Site with museum, barracks and "soldiers" in uniform (recreation of an 1870's military retreat) and McDonald Observatory.
The restaurant serves a variety of food and even packs box lunches for guests that want to spend the day in the park.
