Shaker Village preserves twenty seven original nineteenth century buildings as they were used by the community of Shakers living in the village. Staying here provides a rare opportunity to show children what life was like for people with nonmaterialistic values and no electricity.
Activities include: Shaker craft and farming demonstrations and cruises on the Dixie Belle river boat.
The Shakertown menu, which says,"We'll make you kindly welcome," does the same. The smell of fresh baking distracts you much of the day. Some of the vegetables that are served are from the garden on the premises. The Shaker lemon pie tops off everything, it's unusual but delicious!
