Go Canoeing

The North American Indians used canoes for transportation, and they are still a popular recreational activity today. Glide along a lazy stretch of a stream, twist and turn through foaming rapids, or explore a forgotten backwater seldom visited by man. Fish on some natural setting body of water, dangling your line over the side and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Only a canoe lets you do all this. No other watercraft is so versatile, safe, and ecology-friendly.

Paddling a canoe is can be easily mastered with a few hands-on lessons. Families can rent canoes and go it along, or have a guide go out with them for a little more peace of mind. Check out these great canoeing resources -- the pictures are certainly noteworthy. The Rocky Mountain Canoe Club website also provides some excellent links, and for Maine and Canada outings: Allagash Canoe Trips . Local county and state parks also often have canoes for rent.

Pick up the paddles and enjoy a day in a canoe. It is a quiet and easy form of exercise, and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Don't forget the sunscreen and have fun!
