Renting An RV
by Bob Carter
Remember the last time you spent the night away from home? Did you enjoy the peaceful evening with the kids? Did you have time for a swim or walk? Did you watch a family movie on the VCR?
How about supper -- was it prepared to your liking and served when you wanted it? Were you able to relax by the ocean, a mountain stream, or a wildflower-filled meadow?
RV travel gives you and your family the opportunity to do all of these things. If this type of holiday sounds appealing, perhaps you should rent a recreational vehicle (RV). When you rent an RV, you choose the size and type, the special features, and even the menu. Rental RVs usually come with bathrooms, sleeping arrangements, and full kitchens containing refrigerators, stoves, and microwaves.
With a recreational vehicle, you select your overnight or weekend location. A getaway spent in an RV resort or campground offers swimming, tennis, and sometimes even golf. At small, remote campgrounds, you'll discover the quiet of nature. Larger facilities provide the convenience of hookups for power, water, and sewage disposal.
Two of the largest national rental companies, Cruise America RV Depot, and Go Vacations, Inc., have several thousand RVs in their fleets. Most smaller dealers in the RV rental business have a more limited selection, but tend to provide more personalized services.
RV rental dealers offer their customers instruction in operating rental units. For an additional fee, some also provide housekeeping packages that include linen, cookware, and other necessities for enjoying life on the road.
Depending on the season and RV unit selected, rentals rates vary widely. It's wise to check and verify prices in writing well in advance of proposed use. To avoid disappointment, advance reservations are suggested and highly recommended.
Who knows, by renting a recreational vehicle for your next getaway, you might decide it is an exciting and unique way to vacation. Renting helps prospective buyers determine the type of unit that best suits their needs.
