Resort Overview: Franklyn D. Resort is Jamaica's first all-suite, all-inclusive resort for families that allows guests to vacation in a private setting similar to that of an elegant Jamaican home. Located in Runaway Bay, these Seaside Suites are set among lush foliage on the Caribbean Sea. This all-inclusive holiday features all meals, open bar, wine with lunch and dinner, entertainment, sports facilities, adult activities, and a Mini Club for children. Children under 16 years play, stay and eat for free. The most unique aspect of this resort is its Vacation Nanny concept where each family gets their own personal nanny to attend to their every need. Your Vacation Nanny will baby-sit and be a companion to your children, enabling parents to capture the flavor of being in a Jamaican home while on holiday. The resort's fully supervised mini-club features a range of activities for children, while adults are free to indulge in a variety of watersports and other sporting activities offered at the resort. You'll need to bring your stroller and other baby supplies from home.
Accommodations: Designed in Mediterranean/Georgian style architecture, are 76 spacious one, two and three bedroom suites situated in 8 low-rise buildings, directly on the Caribbean Sea. The 1-bedroom suite is an air-conditioned bedroom with king size bed, full bathroom with shower and bathtub, living and dining room with daybed, satellite TV, telephone and full kitchen. Additional rollaway beds or full-sized cribs are available at no additional cost. Some have a view of the ocean from their balcony or patio. Maximum occupancy: 2 adults and 3 children under 16 years. 2-bedroom suites are air-conditioned with a master bedroom complete with a full bathroom with shower and bathtub. The second private bedroom is air-conditioned and has two twin beds and a full bathroom with shower and bathtub, living and dining room with daybed, satellite TV, telephone and full kitchen. Maximum occupancy: up to 4 adults and 3 children under 16 years old or 3 adults and 4 children under 16 years old. 3-bedroom suites feature: Two private air-conditioned bedrooms each with a king size bed and full bathroom with shower and bathtub for each room. The third bedroom has two twin beds and a full bathroom with shower and bathtub, living and dining room with daybed, satellite TV, telephone and full kitchen. Maximum occupancy: up to 6 adults and 3 children or 5 adults and 4 children.
Restaurants: Teetos-Children can dine in this kid-friendly restaurant which only serves kids meals. Here a well-balanced meal served buffet-style on low tables welcomes kids from 5:30pm until 7:00pm daily. Your children's favorite foods like spaghetti and meatballs, macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, fish fingers, soups, a selection of healthy salads, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers are some of Teetos' specialties. Fruits and juices, milk, strawberry-flavored milk and chocolate milk, ice-creams and after-dinner dessert treats are also available. High chairs are available at all of the family-oriented dining areas. The Verandah Restaurant-Situated on the boardwalk over the ocean, serves International cuisine in a family atmosphere. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style, while dinners are a la carte. Breakfast is available from 7:30am until 10:30am while lunch goes from 12:30pm - 2:30pm. A la carte dinner is served 4 nights per week in this restaurant and there are sumptuous buffets on the other nights including our Saturday nights which are famous for our Jamaican buffets. The Pier Restaurant-Dining at this adults-only restaurant, is in a romantic atmosphere by the ocean where the sounds of gentle waves lapping the shore perfectly complements the setting. Parents will delight in the Italian cuisine and the service is a la carte. There are elaborate antipasto displays including offerings of squid, escargot, a choice of salads, soups and entrees and tempting desserts and cheeses. The restaurant is open for dinner six evenings per week, from 6:30pm until 9:30pm. Beach Grill-For all-day snacks, the beach grill stays open from 11:00pm until 5:00pm daily. Featuring popular Jamaican specialties like beef patties, mouthwatering jerk pork and jerk chicken, simmered in your choice of spicy or not spicy sauces. And of course there are the all-time favorites like pizzas, hamburger, hot-dog and a salad bar
Children's Programs: A Vacation Nanny is assigned to each family free of charge, to look after the children between 9:00am and 4:40pm daily (with a one hour lunch break). After 4:40pm there is a charge of US$3.00 per hour, for baby-sitting and this is paid directly in cash to the Vacation Nanny. (This can be paid in JA$ equivalent.) The Kiddies Centre is open from 7:30am - 10:00pm daily. Guests 4 and under must be accompanied by Vacation Nanny. The Toddlers Playroom has numerous toys and learning aids. There is also a movie room, arts and craft room. There are supervised activities for guests ages 2-11. Activities include: Facilities include: computers, Super Nintendo, soccer, shell collecting, photography lessons, snorkeling lessons, donkey rides, cooking and napkin folding classes, beach picnics and more. Teen coordinators organize activities for the teens. Activities include: aerobic lessons, video games, rap sessions, bike tours, Dunns River and shopping tour, volleyball, Glass bottom boat ride, pool Olympics, Reggae dance classes and use of watersports facilities and equipment complete with instructions including scuba, snorkeling, sunfish sailing.
Golf: Guests of FDR use The Runaway Bay Golf Course at a discounted rate. It is located within walking distance from the hotel. This par 72, 18-hole championship golf course designed by British Naval Commander, James, D. Harris measures 5, 389 yards and is slope rated 117 from the forward tees. From the back, it measures 6,870 yards and is slope rated 124.
Tennis: FDR features one hard court lit for night playing. There is a Tennis Pro on duty.
Swimming: Guests can enjoy the swimming pool including a special children's pool. There is a lifeguard on duty.
Other Activities and Amenities: Other activities include: Entertainment; Family Disco; Cyber Cafe; Gym; snorkeling, glass bottom boat rides, kayaks, sunfish sailboats, windsurfing; Ping Pong; Billiards; Fooseball; Air Hockey; Bicycles; Board games - (Backgammon, Monopoly, Scrabble, Chess, Chinese Checkers, etc.); Shopping; Excursions to Dunns River Falls, rafting on the Martha Brae River, Cranbrook Flower Forest, Green Grotto Caves, Chukka Cove Polo Club and Chukka Cove Farm. There is a nurse on the property and a doctor is on call.
