Corning Museum of Glass Entrance

The Corning Museum of Glass is a totally not-for-profit educational institution dedicated to educating the public about glass and glassmaking. The Museum was renovated and enlarged in 1999 to include an extensive Glassmarket where guests can purchase art glass, glass jewelry, books on glass and consumer glass products. There is also a large area with science-related items and toys for children.

As part of the renovation and expansion, a new Innovation Center was also opened in 1999. Families can see how glass changes the world in this award-winning, state-of-the-art, interactive science and technology exhibit. Highlights include a 200" telescope blank, submarine periscope, flight simulator mirror, walk-on glass floor, optical fiber exhibit, and 15 films on glass innovations.

There are also several glassmaking experiences for families to enjoy. The Hot Glass Show is a live, narrated, hot glassblowing demonstration complete with overhead monitors allowing families to see every step of the process. Flameworking Live is a demonstration in which glass artists flamework glass rods into intricate shapes. The Walk-in Workshop is a favorite among all our guests. For a small fee, one can try hot glassblowing, glassworking, flameworking, fusing, and sandblasting. Visitors can blow a roman bottle, sculpt a glass flower, make a glass bead, or create a unique design to decorate a drinking glass.

In addition to all of these attractions, the new facility includes the Glassmarket Café and Coffee Bar. These two eateries offer a full menu of specialty food items, as well as a selection of regional wines.

Open: The Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. From July 1 through Labor Day, the hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Museum is closed January 1, Thanksgiving, December 24, and 25.
