Basic Brown Bear
444 DeHaro Street
San Francisco, CA 94107
(415) 626-0781

This is a wonderful tour, especially for children and grown-ups who love bears. Here at this small factory, you'll be able to see how teddy bears are designed and made from start to finish.

The owner will demonstrate how the bears are designed and the patterns that are used. Then, you'll watch seamstresses handsewing each part of the bear, learn how they are stuffed (you'll even get to participate in stuffing your own!), and visit the beauty parlor where bears are "bathed" and "showered". You and your children will have the opportunity to participate here as well.

Open: Monday through Friday, 1 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Sunday 3 p.m.. Closed holidays. Call for possible additional tour times during the week.

Age Limits: Must be at least 3 years of age.

Cost: Free tour. Be aware, however, that it is VERY easy to get attached to these bears as you take the tour, and the likelihood of hearing "Mommy, can I PLEASE have one" is very high. If you'd like to participate in making your very own bear to take home, the price of the bear can range anywhere from about $10 to over $300.

Reservations: No, unless you have a group of more than 8 people.
