Visit a Mac Plantation

If you're going to be spending some time on the Big Island of Hawaii, take a Mauna Loa factory tour and enjoy the wonderful sights and smells of melting chocolate and roasting macadamia nuts. Here at the world's largest macadamia nut company, you'll have the opportunity to learn more about how nuts are processed and packed. Wonderful chocolate and nut candies are made in the factory as well.

This factory is particularly oriented to recycling, as the burning of macadamia shells and husks fuel the operations of the entire plant. You'll watch nuts being sorted, oil-roasted and packed, as well as candies being made. A short video show on macadamia nut farming, harvesting and production is also offered. You'll even have the chance to sample some free nuts and candy.

Open: Monday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the best view of production, avoid the lunch hour period of 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. From February through July, no production takes place on holidays or weekends.

Age Limits: None

Cost: Free

Reservations: Not required unless you are coming with a group larger than 50 people.
