Utah is particularly rich in dinosaur sites, making it hard to choose which to visit. This world-famous, fossil-rich site, however, is one of the best. The extensive dinosaur bone beds give visitors the opportunity to examine numerous different species in the same location.
The dig site is still embedded in the mountainside, and a visitors center houses the dig. Excavation work continues year-round, so you will probably see paleontologists working while you visit. A small admissions fee is charged, and food and a gift shop are available.
If you have time, stop at the Utah Field House of Natural History in Vernal, Utah. Here you'll see a huge, Stegosaurus, a 30-foot Triceratops coming out of the bushes, and many other life-sized models of dinosaurs in a wonderfully lush garden setting. For more information, call (801) 789-3799.
