Resort Overview:This laid-back town welcomes families with great programs and excellent skiing. Now one of Colorado's top 10 ski areas, the resort got almost 300 inches of snow last year. While known for some of its extreme skiing, it also has excellent beginner and intermediate runs. Young children will love skiing with Bubba Bear, a big polar bear on skis who serves as Crested Butte's mascot. They can visit his igloo near the children's ski area. For a great value -- try the Annual Ski Free offer valid from Nov. 22 to Dec. 15, 2000, and April 1-8, 2001. Condos and the slopeside Mountain Lair Hotel are well priced, too.

What's New This Year: ˇ "Kids Pay Their Age" Through Age 16: Kids Pay Their Age is a lift ticket deal so simple even a child can understand. Kids 4 years and younger are FREE, and kids 5-16 pay their age as the price for their lift tickets. Good all season long, with no blackout dates. There's no limit on the number of kids who get the discount, no minimum lodging stay and no minimum number of ski days.

ˇ Crested Butte Welcomes Club Med: In April 2000, Club Med acquired the ski-in/ski-out Crested Butte Marriott Resort. After extensive renovations, the new facility will open November 22, 2000, as Club Med's only family ski village in North America. Club Med Crested Butte will be a 3-Trident family village offering vacation packages that include accommodations, ski or snowboarding classes for all levels, nightly in-house entertainment and a Mini-Club Med for children.

ˇ Moonlight Snowshoe Tours: Now you can experience Mount Crested Butte by moonlight! Offered on full moon nights: December 9th, January 6th, February 10th, March 10th and April 6th. Meet at the base of the Keystone Lift and ride in a snowcat to Twister Warming House. Enjoy hot cocoa and Ben & Jerry's ice cream. $45 includes Atlas snowshoe rental, snowcat ride and guided tour.
