Resort Overview: Located only 12 miles from Aspen, the needs of individual family members can be accommodated with the wide variety of terrains available on all three mountains. And with facilities and services like the Panda House, Fort Frog and the "Max the Moose Express", these spots are excellent for families for children. The Panda House, a large house specially designed for pre-schoolers, offers its own ski hill, specialized ski instructors, and a varied daily program complete with hot lunches. Fort Frog, a children's learning and video center for kids 7-12, is also a fort complete with lookout towers, old wagons, a jail, and a Native American tepee village. With its award-winning ski school and easy-to-ski runs, Buttermilk is an excellent choice for beginners. Teen Ski Weeks are also available during spring holidays, including lift tickets, classes and social activities. Kids-only trails are offered just off the Lunchline catwalk at Snowmass. The other major advantage to Snowmass is most of the lodging is ski-in/ski-out. In addition to all the skiing options offered by Snowmass and Buttermilk, check out the activities off-slopes including sleigh rides, snowshoeing, swimming and hot tubs, and great dog sled rides.
What's New This Year: On Snowmass - In an effort to extend Snowmass’ family-friendly atmosphere, a new kid’s arena will be added on the mountain, off the Lower Scooper trail. It will include a picnic shelter, training gates, sculpted moguls, expanded kids’ trails and video analysis. The area will be accessed by a new platter pull lift. At the popular Elk Camp area, chairs are being added to the high-speed quad, increasing its capacity by 25 percent. In the Alpine Springs area, snowmaking capabilities are being increased on access/egress trails, which will allow the lift to open earlier in the season.
In Snowmass Village - Newly reincarnated as a Private Membership Resort, the Snowmass Club residences will be ready for occupancy December 2000. As part of the project, the athletic facility has been dramatically remodeled and expanded. By the start of the season, an employee housing project will provide approximately 150 "beds" for Aspen Skiing Company employees.
